Scarcity Begets Scarcity: Are We *Really* "Saving the Best for Last?" Or Are We...Blocking Ourselves from *More*?
What if *actually* enjoying something is gratitude in action?
What I mean by “actually” enjoying something is not, “Oh yeah! I really do love this thing!” ← Just thinking that 💭 But actually, truly, via action…ENJOYING IT!
Wearing the outfit you just got that you loooooove that feels SO MUCH like you! (And that’s so comfy 😉)
Burning that new candle that smells delicious
Wearing the new makeup
Eating that really awesome dinner that you found the recipe for on Pinterest that you’ve been dying to make
Going on that trip that is totally 100% available to you that you and your partner have been dreaming of taking!
Using the coupon
Reading the book you’ve been so excited to dive into
See where I’m going?
We can love to have these things…available.
We love the…potential of enjoying them.
There’s something in the “not yet having” that feels exciting, huh? (I think I’ve heard about this having to do with dopamine and the reward centers of our brain. That it’s akin to perpetually being on the chase of something that you really want! Always keeping that excited feeling going.)
If you never actually enjoy it, you always get to look forward to it.
If you never eat the cake, you can always look forward to eating the cake. (Metaphor! Or…ya know…it applied to really eating cake, too.)
And who doesn’t love having something to look forward to?
While I totally understand this being related to dopamine and our really cool brains, I wonder if it’s also related to…
A Scarcity Mindset
Who doesn’t have a scarcity mindset at least to some degree?! Actually…back up…
I don’t want to say that and paint a bleak picture of humanity!
But seriously y’all…it’s common. And it’s okay to say it’s common because it’s not permanent and we can do something about it! Millions are out here teaching others how to be free from a scarcity mindset. It’s amazing.
I certainly have a scarcity mindset myself that I’m disentangling from. I grew up with it 🤷🏼♀️ I was raised in an environment of scarcity! We weren’t living in poverty…but that was the attitude. Money seemed to be a constant stress and was a key player in my parents’ divorce.
Even though I know many of the roots of my scarcity mindset and I know that I still have a bit of one doesn’t mean that I can’t be free from it. Same for you, Sweet Soul! No mindset is permanent. Anyway…
I’m mentioning my own scarcity mindset because it’s what got me thinking on the topic of this article. Because I do this whole “saving the best for last” thing 🙋🏼♀️
I worry there’s not going to be any other “good” things on the other side of whatever “good” thing I’m looking forward to!
What if after this trip to Disney world I never get to take another one? 💭
What if this is the last time I get to enjoy shopping for a new outfit and getting to wear it for the first time? 💭
What if there’s nothing to dream about on the other side of recovery from this eating disorder? 💭 (Yep, I’ve let that stop me in my tracks before!)
And on and on and on…
I realized not too long ago that all of these “what if” questions were rooted in scarcity.
I seriously wondered if there would ever be anything else for me to look forward to on the other side of whatever I was looking forward to at that particular moment.
To hope for.
To dream about.
Yikes.
Then I realized it went deeper…
Trusting God
*Remember to sub in Universe of Divine or Source or whatever if God is not a title/word that jibes with you!*
If I don’t believe there will always be more things to look forward to and enjoy…
If I believe that I only have a teeny tiny allotment of “good things” that I get to enjoy in life…
I’m not living by what I know and believe, deep down, to be True. That God’s nature is infinite abundance.
That this universe (beyond this human realm), created by the Universe, is infinitely abundant.
That we exist within a field where any and all possibilities already exist.
That we get to choose new realities via alignment. Dreaming, aligning.
These are things I know deep down in my Soul!
But do all human parts of me fully stand behind them?
Apparently not.
There are parts still abiding by that scarcity program. The learned program.
There are parts of me that still have not fully embraced the Truth.
And that’s okay! Again, everything is malleable. I certainly think that these awareness pieces are key to change - they are for me, at least!
I have to remind myself every day that infinite abundance is a core principle of the universe, the field in which we live. Just because not everyone knows, believes, or lives in alignment with this principle doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. (And this is part of why we have to wake up to deeper Truths and live them out and share them with the world!)
But it didn’t stop here, my thinking and pondering.
I went deeper…
To Get to the Next Level…
Perhaps to keep unlocking greater or different levels of this infinite abundance that’s here (and y’all know I ain’t talking about money - I’m talking about, simply, all the amazing things that we get to enjoy in this human lifetime!), we have to enjoy what’s in our hands already.
Steward what we have in gratitude.
Enjoying is trusting.
Enjoying is an outward sign of gratitude and an outward expression of, “I know there’s more. Thank you.”
It’s living in gratitude and flow.
It’s an energetic unlock 🗝️
We don’t do the enjoying just so we can get something different! Or get more. That would be coming from an energy of UNgratitude (I know ingratitude is correct, but I like this word better 😂) and perhaps even greed? Those attitudes don’t lead to the best. To more. Energy does not and cannot lie - ya can’t fake it!
We get to enjoy what we have while we remember there is always more.
There’s always something different we can be enjoying next.
This is being in flow. This is living in trust.
This is remembering that two things are true at the same time:
We get to enjoy what we have simply for the sake of enjoying it! Aligning with the energy of joy in a unique way that’s only available to us in this form in the human realm.
It’s an energetic unlock to higher levels, to experiencing more and different.
So my question is…
Are We Just Holding Ourselves Back?
By “saving the best for last” are we keeping ourselves stuck and stagnant?
Are we blocking ourselves from experiencing ALL that’s available to us?
Remember that when you align with more, you help usher in more for others.
You bring in new realities.
You show a way for others.
You shift your own energy which changes how you show up in the world which impacts the butterfly effects that you initiate…
It’s all connected.
And you better bet your sweet booty that aligning with and trusting in infinite abundance is only going to beget more!
We cannot play level 10 from level 1.
This isn’t about greed. It’s not about bypassing. It’s not about selfishness.
We get to align with Soul first. When we do so, when we live from the Soul-aligned place, greed and bypassing and selfishness are impossible.
We remember Oneness and we remember that what we do for ourselves we do for others and vice versa. We remember that in each moment the most important thing we can do is choose Love - that’s the whole point of being here! We’re learning so that we can choose Love, we’re awakening so that we can choose Love, we’re evolving so that we can choose Love…
Love shifts reality.
Love is the name of the game. The game we chose to play.
And you know what? I think enjoying what we have is a pretty darn Loving thing to do.
No more holding back, okay? Enjoying is safe. Let’s take it one itty bitty step at a time if we gotta, but let’s start.
Let’s be the change.
Let’s fill ourselves up with joy and Love so that we can carry that with us everywhere we go in the world.
Thank you for being here at this time, Sweet Soul 🦋
Until Next Time…
